  1. How can i make a still picture (.jpg for example) be shown while a background music is played without making a video of the picture?

I use TMPGEnc Pro and TMPGEnc DVD Author. Can anyone explain it with these tools?

You have to encode it to mpeg2. But I think you just have to encode it to a 1 frame mpeg, and let the authoring app mux it with the audio. It will then display as long as the audio is playing.

Yes, mats.hogberg is right, I've done that quite a few time:
    - in TMPGenc create a mpeg2 file using your audio as the audio source, and your still picture as your video source.
    - In TMPGenc DVD Author select the newly created mpeg2 file as your background "image" for your menu and make sure you select "motion menu" (don't remember the exact name).

  4. So you add a pic and audio, what audio can you use can you add an mp3 or do you have to convert it? When the menu is showing can you have music there to?

DVD audio format is AC3 (best choice IMHO) MP2(Not compatible with a small minority of players) and LPCM (compatible with everything, but take 10 times as much disc space as AC3/MP2).
And yes, you can have music during menu.

You can even use mp3 as your source audio file (at least with tmpgenc) it will be converted to mp2 (or ac3 if you have the plugin)...

Be wary of VBR MP3 - you may encounter problems...

Don't know how/if it can be done with TMPGEnc DVD Author (IIRC the menu edit functions are pretty limited) but I'd guess it's just to mux any valid mpeg with any valid DVd audio and set it as menu background?
mp3 to ac3 goes via wav format - decode to wav with CDEx, encode wav to AC3 with ffmpeg/ffmpeggui.

PS Not so stupd, even if it's made allthetime (DVD to AVI conversion) Simplest is to use VirtualDubMod to open the mpeg, then save AVI full processing and select your codec (DivX, XviD...) DS

As I said above, you use TMPGenc to create (multiplex) an mpeg file from an audio (for example mp3 -- my version of TempGenc does not require me to use an AC3 or mp2 file, I can inport an mp3 file directly, can't remember which version though, am at work...) file, and a still picture. You then use that mpeg files as your menu "picture" in TMPGenc DVD Author... I haven't seen guides for that either, but it should be pretty straightforward...

  12. I USE NEROVISION EXPRESS 3.O..it has a feature that adds a custom background(jpeg) and lets you go into the movie and record any length of audio and use it along with the background..maybe thats what u need?
