I'm trying to author my own DVD using Adobe Encore. I've only used Nero 6 before but think that it has very limited functions and barely supports any file format (atleast not the ones I have tried).
But in Adobe encore I cannot add my .AVI file. When I try to "Add Asset.." it says that the resolution has to be either 720*576 or 704*576. Does anybody know how I can change the resolution of my file, either by adding black bars or something else without stretching it to look all weird. I tried to use Open Video Converter I think but damn did I get bad quality and stretch for that matter aswell.
I also used OGMDemux and Virtual Dub Mod to first transform a OGM file to the AVI. Maybe I can use Virtual Dub Mod for this purpose aswell cause I got perfect quality out of that program.
I live in Sweden so I supose choosing PAL in Encore is the right thing?!Yes, I'm noob.
Thx

There was an earlier post discussing this short-coming in Encore - no one seemed to come up with an answer although one suggested fiddleing the headers.

But since you are using VirtualDubMod to convert OGM to AVI you may as well use the 'resize' filter to get it to the compliant size. -
Thx for the tip but I can't seem to find the Rezise filter in Virtual Dub Mod! Where is it?

It's under 'Video' -> 'Filters' -> 'Add' then double click on 'resize'.

Yeah that actually worked... But if I, in the future, wouldn't have the time to do all this stuff. Is there some other DVD burning program that doesn't care about the resolution??
Thx alot for your help -
Well it's the DVD Standard that dictates what a program will accept, but it seems that ENCORE will only accept a sub-set, generally as long as your video matches any one of the following specs most DVD authoring programs will accept it. If your resolution doesn't match one of these then you will need to re-size it.
PAL Video:
Up to 9.8 Mbps* (9800 kbps*) MPEG2 video
Up to 1.856 Mbps (1856 kbps) MPEG1 video
720 x 576 pixels MPEG2 (Called Full-D1)
704 x 576 pixels MPEG2
352 x 576 pixels MPEG2 (Called Half-D1, same as the CVD Standard)
352 x 288 pixels MPEG2
352 x 288 pixels MPEG1 (Same as the VCD Standard)
16:9 Anamorphic (only supported by 720x576)
NTSC Video:
Up to 9.8 Mbps* (9800 kbps*) MPEG2 video
Up to 1.856 Mbps (1856 kbps) MPEG1 video
720 x 480 pixels MPEG2 (Called Full-D1)
704 x 480 pixels MPEG2
352 x 480 pixels MPEG2 (Called Half-D1, same as the CVD Standard)
352 x 240 pixels MPEG2
352 x 240 pixels MPEG1 (Same as the VCD Standard)
16:9 Anamorphic (only supported by 720x480)
