hey,
I have 15GB AVI files on my HD, now I want to move them to somewhere to save my HD space. Yeah, I know the methods to convert all AVI-->mpeg-1 or mpeg-2, then burn them on VCD/DVD, I can do this... but that would be a burdensome task!
Also, it's meaningless to me because I don't wanna watch videos on my DVD player or TV, personally it's already enough to watch them on my computer occasionally.
I'm eager to know is there any chance I could save these AVI to somewhere without huge conversion works? say, AVI backups things.
Thanks!

Compress to divx or xvid with Virtualdub or Dr.DivX or wmv with Windows Media Encoder. Or is it huge conversoin works as you say?
If you want to keep the quality you must burn as data on several cds...many cds...tons of cds...

So, can I watch them on CD-ROM without taking my HD space?Originally Posted by bugster

Yes, it takes me much time, e.g. a 700MB divx video would take me 90 mins to convert to mpeg-1, an hour to burn on VCD.Originally Posted by Baldrick
um, compress with Windows Media Encoder? How much sapce I can save with that?
It's not a big deal since CD is dirty cheap here. My main concern is how to save my HD space.... never burn a AVI as data files before, will try it tonight. If you want to keep the quality you must burn as data on several cds...many cds...tons of cds...
btw, I'm honored Mod & Admin replied my 1st post so quickly! thanks a lot!

Funny you should ask this question because I'm in the middle of backing up my ... erm ... material also. I'm burning my 18GB to a few DVD-Rs as data, but you can do the same with CDs. No conversion necessary. Drap n drop, burn. When you want to play them, chuck a CD in, browse to it and double-click on the files as if it was on your hard drive.
If in doubt, Google it. -
Funny for my newbie questions... lol.Originally Posted by jimmalenko
