I have a Theatre Reasearch system Tr 6100 and my center channel is not working properly according to inst... sys hooks up in parelel is this true

If it's a 5 channel or so surround system, it should have a separate output for center channel, along with R, L front and R, L rear, and probably one for subwoofer. My system has a test button on the remote to set the speaker levels. You should hear sound out of each speaker in turn. You may also need to set up the type of sound in the receiver/amplifier to enable surround sound.
