I figured I'd be brave and grab this video that was in CVCD format, having done a quick Google, I found out that's it's VBR, so you can fit more minutes on one CD, blah blah...anyway...it's in PAL format >_< My TV doesn't really appreciate that, and setting my DVD player to PAL mode doesn't seem to do much.
Anyway, I was trying to look it up, and the only info I could find is that it's similar to xVCD and KVCD format. I also found a bunch of information on CVD, which is one letter short, and I'm 75% certain it's not what I'm after.
Anyway, back to the point, is there a template I can download from somewhere? Or maybe some other format I should convert it to? I'm Googling around a bit, but so far, no luck...just a few PAL templates...

The info was bad. KVCD is a low quality XVCD.
CVD is almost the same as SVCD, but uses Half-D1 resolution (valid for DVD).
Why templates? Just set your settings in an encoder.
Or better yet, leave it alone and get a DVD player that cooperates with more formats (like a Cyberhome 300).Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Ciao!
EDIT -> First post -
Actually, nevermind, I figured out how to get PAL to work on my DVD player...but now I've run into another problem...VCDEasy won't let me add chapters to this thing >_<

Thats cause its low quality encoded non compliant encoded mpg.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
Encode the source at 352x480/576 with cq at 80 with max number of frames in a GOP set at 18 for ntsc and 15 for pal.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
Will I still be able to fit ~140 minutes onto one CD? I'm sure I could find a way to trim off 20 minutes if I have to, but if I don't...
-
Lower the cq if the file size is too big, going to 70 should be the lowest limit.

CVCD and MVCD are the same thing. An xVCD with propaganda-like marketing.
As has been pointed out many times on this forum, you can use a good encoder like Procoder, and then tweak the settings if you need optimal compression ... AND... AND... stay within a spec of some sort.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Obsolete?, well, I respect your opinion, but I see a total different picture

CVCD was a 2000 xVCD from Spain
It had VBR mpeg 1 at 352 x 288 / 240 with 128Kb Audio.
The site that supported CVCD, was www.vcdhelpsp.com . It use to be a good source for various - not always legal - things....
There is also a little background in that story:
At China, for a short while (1997-1998) some 999MB CDs appeared, with xVCD files (CBR 1024kb/s with 128kb audio) from a company I don't remember the name. Those where also called CVCDs (China Video CDs).
The story end up soon (since only "compatible" (call me flexible) VCD players use to play those), but somehow some discs end up to same manga cartoon collectors in Spain. Those ones became so exciting with that fact, that they actually create there own variation of CVCD (the VBR xVCD). It was a great hype for a while in the spanish speaking world. There are still some spanish users of those
MVCD comes from Germany and is about the same idea with CVCD. It became for a very short while (2001) a hype in German speaking countries, but soon "disapear" because German enthusiasts switch to SVCDs and DVDs. I don't know anyone use it today

I just *hate* with passion any non-standard junk.
Thx for nice explanation about those out of whack VCDs, Sat (I was just about to ask where/how are they f***d up comparing to standard VCDs).
Smurf, go easy on those slowpokes still entrenched with VCDs and Xvariants... My grandpa still prefers his VCR and his tapes too, people at some age reach something I call "resistant age" and theres nothing in the world to change their mind after that (resistant as in resistant to anything newer beyond what they already know or had learnt about).
You wasted time on your explanation instead of i.e. help me solve still unsolved riddle of MMC not working in conjunction with Remote Desktop Sharing on
