i'm kind of new to this, and have tried a few programs to split a longer movie file of mine, but the way they split it, it makes the sound way off from the video. i was just wondering if there was a really good program that everyone was using. thanks

Virtualdub for avi's. Mpegs are a different matter...some people use the mpeg tools in TMPGEnc but one of the Womble products (mpeg-vcr or video wizard) works better.

Cuttermaran does a fine job and muxs the result too. Requires .net framework, but any computer user should have this installed on his machine as there are programs that require it also. Just as you have Realtime, Quicktime, etc. installed, so should you have .net framework installed. Use TmpGenc to demux first before using Cuttermaran. Best value for the $$$$-it is free.
For MPG only
