Hi
I am very new to converting files to dvd. I am using winavi to convert video files to dvd format, and am finding that it works well. I like the fact that it will convert any format as long as the codec is installed. The conversion works fine, but it is splitting all the files into multipul pieces. I am converting videos that are about 40mins in length. I always get on file that 1,024,942kb and a second smaller one. How can I get win avi to convert into one file? I want to be able to get one file for easy authoring a dvd with a basic menu system.
Thanks

By selecting 'DVD' as your output format, WINAVI creates an already authored DVD, that's why you are getting VOB files. The standard for VOB is that they should be no larger than 1GB each, otherwise the DVD may not be playable in many devices.
If you intend to manually author the DVD later then you need to select MPEG2 as your output format. The MPEG2 file will become the input to your authoring program.
Having said that, if you still want to create VOB files and import them into an authoring program, you can make them larger as follows..
After you select the file to be converted, you get the window that lets you specify the output directory, there is also an 'Advanced' button on this screen.
Select this and then select the 'Output' tab, here you will find the size options, just untick the 'Split output file(s)' option, I haven't tried larger VOBs myself - it may give you an error.
You might also like to experiment with the 'Quality' options to see what suits your video, which will also affect the file size.
But be careful you may not be able to import them if they are non-standard.
