This has been happening nonstop for about 3 days now.

LG DVD-ROM. On third IDE channel (1st on ATA card).

Happens AFTER I've played an MP3 in WMP9, and if I use the hardware eject button, reboot. Or if I leave DVD in drive when shutting down, boom, hard reset.

    Ideas?

So far, I just avoid DVD use (or use sofware eject) after playing MP3s.

I'd guess you've already checked the physical conenctions to be sure they fit well. First thing I'd try (if you don't have to remove any hard drives to do so) is pulling the DVD-ROM off the ATA card and putting it on the on-board controller. Many add-in ATA controllers don't recommend using optical drives, only hard drives. Although I'm assuming you've had this setup for a while. Sounds like it might be a power issue, but then again, it's not the actual opening and closing that's giving the error (just pushing the button, right?). You might also want to try a different poiwer connector if you have one available, or split if you must. The fact that software eject works makes me think there's some issue dismounting the disc (software). Some questions.

Is it all MP3s or just certain ones?
Is it just DVDs, or CDs also?
Does it happen if you use another media player?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

Could it possibly be a grounding issue??????

  4. I had this problem about a year ago and it was a ground problem.

As I am not saavy in such things, I brought it to a friend and thats what he told me. Sadly, I cant give any info on how to FIX the problem. I can only offer info on WHAT the problem is.

    Sorry Smurf.

Like the post above, I would have to concur. Sounds like the hardware switch is poorly grounded and is causing some sort of short.

Try a different DVD rom in it's place to pin point the problem.
