I don't think you can change startup order via a registry change or 3rd party utility, but you could probably create a BATCH file with the program command lines in the order you desire and create a PIF or shortcut to that batch file in the STARTUP group to execute on Windows startup.
Never tried it -- just a thought !!! -
anything else guys..........it is not like i want my programs............but i have norton internet secuity and and windows washer and system mechanic and anti virusees and in the msconfig norton has like 5 different things. and that slows up my boot up........if there was a way i can load the norton items first or last...................anyother ideas............
-
You do not need windows washer or system mechanic starting up at bootup at all.
If you disable those two you will find it improves your startup speed.
I have a question?
Why are you using a separate antivirus and internet security?
That is another problem.
Internet security has an antivirus program in it. -
that is what i meant........it is just there are two seperate icons that is why........
this is what i have done......i have enabled the firewall on my router.........and uninstalled norton internet security leaving only the antivirus.................
so now i have new programs
norton antivirus 2004
system mechanic 5
cybersitter v9
windows washer
and that is it.......that is the only thing that i booting up and it is much much faster now...................
another question for the system mecahnic what is the optimized settings for the cleanups and how oftem should it be done -
Like I said earlier, system mecahnic and windows washer are not needed at bootup.
You could turn those off and only run them when you need them.
You should maintain your computer about once a week.
You really don't even need windows washer. I have seen it mess up many systems. -
smearbrick1 - you keep telling us to ditch norton.....what do you use.......

Mcafee... I have had several issues with both Norton 2003 and 2004 (antivirus) and the Norton Utilities package. I have also read several user's complaints concerning issues after installing Norton products. Just do a search in this forum alone. Also, in my experience, it appears that Norton is a bit of a resource hog.
-
I have used both Mcaffe and Norton but prefer Norton/Symantec.

thanks guys for you imput.......
now for all of you......who dont use norton or mcafee and use other virus programs......please tell us what you use and why you use it.....and if you answer is avg dont say because it is free......we want to know about programs that you actually have to pay for...... -
Pcmagazine just rated Norton #1 in it's November 30th issue.

BTW, I did install the latest home version of McAfee but promptly got rid of it do being a resource hog just like Symantec. The only thing I use by Symantec is Ghost and that's only the command line version. -

You should definitely get rid of windows washer.
I have seen it mess up several windows installs. -

BTW, the best virus protection you can get is the person between the keyboard and the mouse. That's probably not an option for you, It's free though. -
