  1. when i go to Run and then type in MSCONFIG
i can disable or enable startup items......is there a way that i can order the startup items and load some before others.............

  2. I don't think you can change startup order via a registry change or 3rd party utility, but you could probably create a BATCH file with the program command lines in the order you desire and create a PIF or shortcut to that batch file in the STARTUP group to execute on Windows startup.

Never tried it -- just a thought !!!

You do not need windows washer or system mechanic starting up at bootup at all.

If you disable those two you will find it improves your startup speed.

    I have a question?

Why are you using a separate antivirus and internet security?

    That is another problem.

Internet security has an antivirus program in it.

  5. that is what i meant........it is just there are two seperate icons that is why........

this is what i have done......i have enabled the firewall on my router.........and uninstalled norton internet security leaving only the antivirus.................

so now i have new programs

    norton antivirus 2004
    system mechanic 5
    cybersitter v9
    windows washer
and that is it.......that is the only thing that i booting up and it is much much faster now...................
another question for the system mecahnic what is the optimized settings for the cleanups and how oftem should it be done

Like I said earlier, system mecahnic and windows washer are not needed at bootup.

You could turn those off and only run them when you need them.

You should maintain your computer about once a week.

You really don't even need windows washer. I have seen it mess up many systems.

Mcafee... I have had several issues with both Norton 2003 and 2004 (antivirus) and the Norton Utilities package. I have also read several user's complaints concerning issues after installing Norton products. Just do a search in this forum alone. Also, in my experience, it appears that Norton is a bit of a resource hog.

I prefer McAfee Corp version (4.5) over everything that I have tried.
BTW, I did install the latest home version of McAfee but promptly got rid of it do being a resource hog just like Symantec. The only thing I use by Symantec is Ghost and that's only the command line version.

And why do you want to only know about ones you have to pay for? Just because it costs money doesn't make it good. AVG is a highly recommended app, BTW I use Mcafee.

  17. i just think that it gives them the desire to make better programs..........

you are so funny.........first this has nothing to do with it..............
and then, if AVG (free edition) is highly rated.........lol.......then why do you use McAfee

I use Mcafee because it came with my comp with a years subscription, and to tell you the truth your the one that is funny since you obviously have no clue. Anyone who would install something such as Windows Washer..... well, I'll leave it at that.

Correct, you asked about virus protection but your post shows your lack of knowledge. My answer was to provide you with some. Your reply was to call me funny.

Being an idiot it's sometimes hard for me but I do all the time. Fortunately most posters are grateful for my advice or bits of wisdom. If they were all like you................

BTW, the best virus protection you can get is the person between the keyboard and the mouse. That's probably not an option for you, It's free though.

Then why did you ask? It was your question not mine. Perhaps you should consider not asking irrelevant and unnecessary questions.
