  1. i want to know how to increase the decibel level on a dvd

i have a .img file for the dvd

need the name of a program that gives me the vobs and stuff

then i want to extract the audio and increase the decibel level then put it back into the vob's and then burn to a dvdr so it can be heard better when played on my standalone player and tv because the audio is usually low on a dvd

i need to know the steps and programs necessary to do this, endless searches on google have not helped

Actually, the audio on a DVD is not low, but has a far greater dynamic range than TV, tape or CD. This can make quite noises seem very low, however it also makes for a much better difference between, say, amouse squeek and an explosion.

If the audio is DTS or AC3 multichannel, then you are in for a lot of work.

    You will need

    1. An ISO reader, such as Daemon Tools, UltraISO etc to read the contents of the .img

    2. Ifoedit to demux audio and video back to elementary streams

    3. Something to convert the audio back to wav. If it is AC-3 then besweet or similar. If it is multi-channel you will have up to 6 wav files to change.

    4. An audio editor to alter the volume of the wav files. Preferably something a visual level meter. When you adjust the audio, you should look to make sure that ;

    a. The average audio is around -6dB
    b. The loudest audio never rises above 0dB

Make your changes, then reverse the process to put it all back together again.

Honestly, it is easier to just turn up the volume.

  3. yah i would just turn it up but i can't go any higher then 100% on the tv volume and everything is still so low

i'd like to do a manual gain of say 25-30 db before i burn to dvdr

    its 5.1 DD ac3 btw

also i heard that besweet's ac3 encoder makes it so it might not work on some brands of dvd player?

besweet's AC-3 implementation isn't licensed or certified by Dolby, and isn't 100%. Most seem to have few problems, but it is a risk. Other choices include Surcode's AC-3 encoder, Sonic Foundry's Soft Encode (no longer available) or Vegas Video with the AC-3 encoder.

Are you sure there isn't a different cause ?

  7. I would do everything gunslinger mentioned but I would use AC3Tool to increase dB and convert to 2ch WAV,then drop the .M2V and .WAV into your favorite DVD authoring program.

Some DVD players have an option in the menu to select a higher volume output.
