i have installed service pack 2 on my computer just recently. i have heard that sp2 can change the region code of your dvd burner if you install it. i just went to the system properies in control panel and checked what my burner is set as and it says region 2. so if i have a dvd ripped with dvd decrypter which rips in region 0 and i burn the created image with decryptor using my nec 1100a, will i end up with a region 0 disc or a region 2 disc? it seems confusing to me. is the region 2 only really applicable to dvd playback? if anybody has the answers please let me know.

what you changed the burner to region 3 in order to rip it to your hd or you had to change your burner to region 3 to burn it only? do you have sp2 installed?

  5. yeah well i made my burner region free, but it has to be set to the region that you are reading from."as far as i know" this was the only way i solved my problem, you have to have it set to the same region to play it or burn it. but keep in mind that you can burn it to any region you want after it is rip to the harddrive.

  6. sorry I'm not very clear,,let me say it again. if you have a region 1 2 3 or what ever. your burner must be set to that region OR region free to rip it. then you are free to burn to whatever region you want.

  8. you dont have to change region to rip a dvd,nor change the region to copy it.
you WILL however need to change your region for playback.
as far as im aware sp2 doesnt change the region.
there are many multi region programmes that work by fooling windows into thinking its playing what region it says should be played, one that springs to mind is dvd regionfree.programmes like dvddecrypter will rip regardless,i remember dvd decrypter using something called brute force.
you can make the dvd region free that way,dvd decrpyters standard settings remove the region protection.

also some dvd burner firmware can make your drive region free, amongst other handy features.
