  1. ok converted some xvid files to mpeg2 with winavi then when i try 'add file' with tmpgenc dvdauthor it says:
the video bitrate 4294267 kbps is too high for a standard dvd, the maximum rate is 9800 kbps blah blah.
    How do i fix this?

  2. TDA only looks at the header, not the actual mpeg stream. Often the header is wrong (too high) so the warning can be ignored. If you want to be sure, check the mpeg with bitrate viewer to see the true bitrate.

  3. ok it said the peak bitrate was 4158 & average 2130, so i guess this means i can ignore the warning then? i read the msg can be ignored but then i thought it might not play on all players, my 3 yr old pioneer pretty much plays anything i throw at it but i want to make some dvds for friends so want to be sure it will play on their machines too.

  4. hmm ok now after i click ignore the error it comes up with 'an error has occured in the mpeg video decoder' , would this be because its a partial file? i only encoded part of it with winavi to test it out.

It might be that, or it might be something else.

Try cutting a small section out of your source avi and encoding that and see if TDA accepts it.

  6. ok i encoded the whole file & tried it with the same error occurring, what should i try now?

  7. Never used winavi myslef so I don't know what it does/can do.

    Maybe try a different encoder.

Maybe scan the source file for errors.

search the forum/tools section for mpeg fixers

  9. what other tools did you use though? i used winavi to encode. Maybe its something to do with the codecs, can you tell me which you have installed?

  10. I use mainstream, well-tested tools: VDub, AviSynth, for necessary pre-processing work; MainConcept 1.42 for encoding compliant DVD stream; TDA for final authoring. They can do all the things I need. No need to use other tools.
