I am having a play order problem.

I am making music videos from clips of various DVD music videos I own. I extract the VOB's using Mac the Ripper and then use Stream Clip to isolate the parts I want or simply extract the precise chapter I want. I then export them as M2V and AC3 files. I simply drag the video in first, and it automatically asks for the AC3. The DVD plays beautifully except that the first video is always...ALWAYS skipped. It always starts on the second song. The first song IS still there...if I hit the back button or "menu" it will eventually go back to he first song.

Is there any solution you know of--other than creating an IFO on a PeeCee...

That's really odd. It's never happened to me. What version of Toast 6 are you using? What drive are you using to burn the DVD? Have you checked to see if you have the current firmware for that drive?

Next question: Does this happen when playing on standalone DVD players as well as when playing on the Mac? I know you said always but I'm a little hard of hearing sometimes.

One thing to try is to Save as Disc Image rather than burn the videos to DVD. Mount the disc image and see if it plays correctly in DVD Player or if the first title is skipped.

Of course you could turn off Auto-Play Items and you'd get a Title menu instead of the DVD playing, but that isn't a real solution for why this is happening.

I am using the most current version of Toast & Jam. I am burning to a LaCie D2 8x. I just bought the drive, but I will check the firmware.

I am noticing this on my standalone DVD player. I have not tried DVD Player, but will once I create the image--I often burn a "test" DVD before creating the image, so I will try that next. Since they should be one and the same, I assumed there would be no difference.

If this continues to be a problem, report it to Roxio (or whomever owns Toast now), and make a DVD compliant black-screen video of a few seconds in duration and always add it first to projects like these. Then, when you play your disc, the second clip added will always "play first."

  5. I've seen it happen, but it only happens on some DVD players. I think if you have menus one it will work.

I did make some changes to the file, added "autoplay" and menus, and now it does work in correct order.

There is another person who has had the same problems I see, but no response on whether or not he found a solution.

I am using Toast 6.0.7, and when making a DVD, Toast reversed the order of my titles. I tried the DVD on both my set-top player and also Apple's DVD Player, but both had the same flawed result. Since there were only 2 titles, I just reversed the order of the titles in Toast before my next attempt. This time the DVD played fine in both my set top player and Apple's DVD Player. I never experienced this problem in earlier versions of Toast 6.
