Is your dvd burner set to DMA mode? It would help if you put in your computer specs. Here's a link on how to enable DMA in XP or WINDOWS 2000:

what is the exact media code on those RITEK G04? use dvd identifier to find out the exact media code and manufacturer. are you using a 80 pin cable for your dvd burner? some dvd burners don't work correctly using a 40 pin ide cable. it would really help if you put in your computer details which will be useful in trying to solve your problem.

Are you using Roxio with the powerrec option? If so that's the optimal burn speed for that disc. It won't go any higher, it determines what's the fastest speed you should use for that disc. You can adjust it but I just let it do it's thing, no coasters yet!

I am fairly new to burning DVDs (done plenty of CDs) but isn't burning speed dependant on both Hardware & Media ?

My Burner will burn DVD - Rs up to X4 but only up to X2.4 with DVD - RWs

Yes but if you are using powerec on Roxio it examines the disc and picks the best speed regardless of it's stated speed. I would guess it won't exceed the speed. I've seen it record at different speeds on the same media, it depends on the disc.

  11. Ritek is a decent brand. When's the last time you cleaned your lens? That usually does the trick for me. You can get a cd lens cleaner for 5 to 10 bucks. It's a cd with a little brush on the bottom (usually on track 2).
