  1. I'm working with the Panasonic DMR-T3040, which has a hard drive built-in and a DVD burner. At the moment I am burning DVDs (from video on the built-in hard drive) in real time. A 1 hour program takes me 1 hour plus 4 minutes of finalizing. I have searched the user manual and looked all throughout the on-screen menus but have not found a way to transfer video from the built-in hard drive to a DVD-R faster. Even if I could only dub at twice the rate of real time, it would still be a major boost in productivity and time saving for me. Is it possible to dub to DVD-R faster than real time with this deck?

  2. I believe this is the "Pro" version of the DMR-HS2. I think you'll find that there's no way to do a high speed dub onto DVD-R. It will only burn to DVD-R in real time (and it also re-encodes while it transfers, so there's slight decrease in quality from hard drive to DVD-R.)

However, you can highspeed dub to DVD-RAM with no loss in quality. This is one way to offload video from the hard drive. If you want to convert the DVD-RAM to DVD-R, then you can use a computer to import the video from DVD-RAM to computer's hard drive, then author to DVD-R with appropriate software (assuming the computers DVD drive will read the DVD-RAM.) I do this all the time now with my DMR-HS2. I haven't used it for burning to DVD-R in probably a year. I use DVD-RAM to transfer everything from the Panny to computer, then author and burn solely with the computer.
That's my opinion, and if you don't like it, I'll change it.

  3. MPEG2VCR is a great tool to use after burning with DVD ram. If you did any editting on DVD-RAM or the hard drive or recorder some show and use FR mode you have to "DeMultiplexer" the file and then "Multiplexer" back to together. If you just record to DVD-RAM you do not have to do this step.
