  1. Hi everyone!

I have about 15 - 8mm tapes made on an analog camcorder that only has composite out. I'd like to get these to my hard drive, edit, & output to DVD.

    I have the All-In-Wonder 8500, 128mb. card.

What is the ideal size/format to keep it decent looking for playback on a TV? Also, what are your fav's for software (I'm a total n00b)? I don't have anything yet so am open to suggestions?

Thanks you all so much for any help & advice,

    Mom ;^)

Check out www.digitalfaq.com for guides on capturing with ati cards. Good stuff!

Capture at full D1 DVD MPEG2 (720x480). Start with 4000 Kbps average and 9800 peak Kbps. Adjust from there after trying it on a sample.

Use the bitrate calculator (tools) to calculate your final bitrate for 1 DVD qith the time of your capture. Then author and burn or, if you want to cut out parts and do more than just add a menu and chapter points, then edit, author and then burn

But before you do anything else:

  4. Thanks you all-

I'll test it out. I did look at the guides & liked the 2nd listed under ATI guides- but w/MMC 9.1, I don't get the huffy codec to show in the drop-down. I installed it & it's in my sys32 folder but I guess it doesn't work in this version of MMC?

I probably ought to use a DVD-RW 1st few times?

I intend to put this video onto the hard drive to crop some stuff out & do a basic menu or such- nothing too "hollywood"- what are the recommendations for software?

    Thanks again!

8mm is essentially VHS quality, 352x480 is perfect for it.
