Backin up a DVD to a DVD+RW ....

I am trying to back up a movie from a dvd to a dvd+rw. I have a program that will copy it directly to a dvd. Have used this program before backing up whole movies to one dvd. The problem started when I bought a dvd+rw. I didn't know that the rewritable dvd's need to be formatted before use... now I know.


The program I use ( don't know if I can mention it here) does not format a DVD+RW... everytime I try to use the dvd I get an error message saying it is formatting then I get a box that pops up and says "error". I have to shut down the program ans start over but I keep getting to the same problem.

I have window's xp with a sony dvd rw dw-u12a.

Is there a program that lets you format a rewritable dvd ????
