  1. Hello all,
Sometimes when I rip DVDs and convert them from .vobs to .mpeg the quality comes out pretty good but one problem I have and so does my friend is the stretching of the video. Meaning, peoples faces are longer than they really are and everything is a little bit "skinner".

I know it has something to do with the black bars and 4:3. I am using Sefy's Classical Newbie DVD rip guide found right on this site and I follow it step by step and get the stretching. The quality comes out okay with me but how can I stop the stretching? Heck, I'll be glad to have those black bars on the MPEGs if it will improve the video. (Right now the MPEGS play full-screen and there are no black bars).

If someone could let me know how to do this that would be great! Like I said, I use the guide on this site which uses TMPGENC to encode. Should I change the option in there which is 4:3 to 16:9 or something? I'm not sure.

    Thanks!
    Scott

If the mpeg file is mpeg1, you can open it with vdub, resize it to the aspect ratio you require and frameserve it to tmpenc. If you have the .dat file off the VCD you will need VCDgear to convert it to an mpeg file. I was able to convert a copy of The Fast & the Furious. As you are only resizing an mpeg and not converting an AVI, the whole process is completed very quickly.

    Hope this helps.

  4. First load the template in tmg pal or ntsc then go to setting and find source aspect ratio and put 16/9 pal or ntsc good solution

  5. Sounds like you are ending up with an anamorphic version rather than a full screen version. In TMPGenc, click on the [setting] button beside where you enter you video and audio file locations (bottom left of the screen), go to the [advanced] tab and make sure you specify the Source Aspect Ratio to be 16:9 display, and the Video Arrange Method as Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio 2). This should give you proper display ratios on your TV screen.

  6. suprax, the reason your movie was Full Screen instead of Wide Screen is because TMPGEnc detects the movie as 704x480/576 and what you need to do is just like energy80s said, this will fix your problem, if you would notice in my guide, this is exactly how I set it up myself.

  7. Hey everyone thanks for the help! That sure was some quick responses!

I changed it to 16:9 and it comes out fine now. I don't mind the black bars and would rather deal with those than stretched video. I should have found the simple option myself.

    Thanks again for the help!
