The filter actually generates the CGMS code, independent of what the source video signal has. This way, you have control over what type of code to send to the recorder.
Thanks for the information. You must have had some correspondance with them or can read between the lines on their web site:

"Although all filters support Component, S-Video and Composite, the Panasonic units do not support CGMS and therefore, only work with Composite."

I did run across a web site in H.K. selling DVD players which seem to have no protection.

    http://www.goldenshop.com.hk/AI-trad/DVD/index.htm

"Code Free & Region Free DVD Players

All our DVD players are modified to Code Free & Region Free. That means that they can play any DVDs of any region code (including the RCE movies). "

Since you seem to be very knowledgeable you might be able to help me. I don't believe the device that I am looking for exists but you never know. I am looking for a convert that will take DVI input and output Component, S-Video or Composite?

    Thanks

  2. No need for them to read between their own lines.
I believe the person posting is the one who makes the video filters.
By the way I have one and they work great!

  4. Here is DVD Decoder for US $25 --http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=23&products_id=1365&lsaid=272992

I have not tried it, so I can't vouch for it. The FAQ section on the site is good. It advertises the ability to help with DVD to VHS recordings. Does anyone really do that? Kinda like bronzing that gold metal. Is there a product that will allow me to record to "8 track" ?

Seriously, I have not run into copy protection yet recording cable shows and HBO with my Hauppauge 150 or AIW 9800 Pro. Are others having a problem?

  5. Can anyone tell me if any of these macrovision removers are usable in the UK, or point me in the direction of one that's compatible with a UK JVC DR M10, please?

P.S. I've only just registered, and this is my first post, but I've been finding solutions to my problems here for the 4-5 months. I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who posts here for all the useful information!

  6. The ILO's have been hacked to be MV free. Tape, DVD, Computer file anything you want to throw at it.
I think the R04 is about $138 from Walmart.
And there is a nice ILO website for user support.

Someone mentioned that a TBC is the best. Was he referring to a TBC which would be built in on some vcr's? Because I'm pretty sure high end s-vhs vcr's (like the Panasonic ag-1980) have a TBC. Or would it have to be a separate external one?
