  1. Guess I'll start with my setup, its an eMachine with Athalon xp 3200+, 512 meg of ddr, 160 gig hd, ATI AIW 9600xt AGP video card. Windows XP home edition sp1. ATI catalyst and driver updates downloaded and installed last week.

I am able to capture from my direcTivo through an RadioShack switch flawlessly, NO dropped frames, no audiosynch problems to mpeg2 DVD quality. Same with Beta tapes (I still have an Sony EDBeta). I run only svhs and audio cables to the switch box, no regular rca vid cable. However, when I capture from a VHS (or SVHS) tape, whether through the switch, the Beta or direct, from different SVHS players one JVC (with TBC), one Phillips I get a vertical line of white distortion. The line is well defined on one side, but fuzzy on the other. It is on the *left* hand side and there is video visible on both sides of the line. The line is not visible when watching the tape through ATI's MMC TV 9.02 program , though you get a "flash" of it when I hit the record/"movie camera" button to start or stop recording. The line also appears in avi captures of VHS. I'm very puzzled. Any ideas on what this is from or how to correct it would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

*edit* from "right" to "left" about 35 views so far, no comments... thought this was a strange one.

  3. Thank you for the reply.

No its not like ANYTHING in that post. Its a vertical, top to bottom, thin white bar on the left end of the screen. It is well defined on its right edge but its left edge is fuzzy. A thin bar of the video is visible between this white bar and the left edge of the screen.

Does it occupy the area similar to these? If so it's overscan it's normal it's not visible on a TV but only your computer.

  7. After looking at the pictures from http://www.nepadigital.com/mv/ and if this is also your problem. I have seen this when I have capture VHS tapes. I have two ways to fix this problem with the stuff I own. The old way was to play my NTSC tapes and out put PAL then Capture in PAL. I think I out put PAL-N or PAL-M. I used a Samsung World wide VCR for this trick.

The second way I fix the problem was with my Panasonic E80 DVD recorder that has a TBC in side of it. It has fixed ever VHS tape I gave it.
