Is there an easy way to use AVISYNTH to generate a motion menu that has options that are not rectangular in shape? In other words, perhaps a menu item that shows video footage in an oval, etc.

i haven't tried it myself yet, but if you have software that can use a matte it should be doable. the examples i've seen were from EditStudio (which i have), but i guess there is more software around which supports this.

Yes, it is possible. But what authoring program will you use to create the 'real' menu?
