  1. I have a Optorite 1205 with the 120E firmware. I recently bought some Ridata R03 (DVD+R 8X) I have been burning them at 8X and they do play OK but on some of the longer movies that I backup IE Angels In America and JFK they usually freeze or pause towards the end of the movie. I know that it is usually media that causes it. I don't want to have to buy new media (unless I have too) My questions is this is it going to be better if I burn the movies at say 2.4X instead of 8X? or am I crap out of luck? One more question. Has anyone seen or heard of a way to hack the firmware on the optorite 1205 to be able to use BitSetting? I think it is really stupid manufactures don't just automatically have that built on where alot of DVD players NEED it.

  2. Usually when you copy at a slower speed it will solve your freeze problem.Try 4X or 2x

I burn all my DVDs at 4x with no problems, if I am using good media. The quality of the disc is alot more important with DVDs than with CDs. Try with differnt brands. I was having the same problem too, I was using cheapy discs and they would start to skip or stutter at the end so I started buying some better memorex discs and I havn't made a coaster yet. I find the cheapy discs are good for data backup but not for dvd complient movies.

  4. Yeah that is exactly what I did is I bought some real cheapo's from ebay. then I made alot of coasters. So I decided to get some Ridata's and they are better.. but I have only burned at 8X .. I will try burning with a slower speed to see what happens.. Are the memorex that you buy can I get like a 5 pack of them from walmart? I know they have some memorex but are they good ones. and if so/not what do I look for if going to a local retail store to make sure they are good.

Burn at a slower speed until you use up the Ridata discs, then buy good media. You won't have to coddle the good stuff like Taiyo Yuden

Not always (sometimes it can give even worser results), but you could try and see...

  7. Capmaster where do you buy your Taiyo Yuden Media? and have you EVER had a problem with freezing/pausing? I don't care about actual coasters (burn and it won't play at all) that happens with every media. I just want to buy the BEST media available.. and Taiyo Yuden seems like it really is the best.

  8. Umm.. ok.. is there ANY difference between Ridata and Ritek discs? I thought they were all the same.. is Ritek better then Ridata?

  9. Ritek is the manufacturer, RiData is their brand. Same media. In fact, that's all I use, Ridata +R (ricohjpn) as both +r ans bitset to -rom. Burned on a 401s@411s at 2.4x. Play flawlessly on my PC, xbox and Apex stand-alone.

Rima.com is where I buy mine. I used to buy Maxell from Meritline when they were Taiyo Media ID, but then I got a bunch of Ritek G04, so I switched to buying straight Taiyo TYG02 8X from Rima. Last time I bought them I paid 56 cents each.

Taiyo is the best I've found so far, at least for DVD-R

And I have yet to get my first coaster with Taiyo. Never any freezing or pausing that's the media's fault.

I've used both Ritek R03 and Taiyo TG02 8x with my NEC 3500 and have no problems with either. I also use bitsetting on my discs just for compatibility reasons.

Before you go buy a spindle of something else, buy a +/-RW disc at 4x and try that. Better to spend money a re-usable disc to test with than buy a bunch of media that may or may not make a difference. If the RW disc does the same thing, the problem is elsewhere. I would recommend FujiFilm 4x +RW discs, the media ID is RICOHJPN11. Very good discs.

I've seen people post regarding this in the past. It's usually not the burn speed that will help you.
Try not filling up the entire disc, leave like 200-400Mb free.
Think it has something to do with the dye on the outside of the disc is too thin or something, which is attributed to cheap disks.

  15. Well I just burnt my first backup on the Taiyo DVD-R's and it worked FLAWLESSLY!!!!! so I am very impressed and the movie was no short one either it was JFK Directors Cut. so the Ritek discs I bought are going to be tossed in the garbage. (still have 30 of them left damn it) or maybe I will keep them around for data backups. For anyone that would like to know if Ritek is any good. well they worked better then the Vanguard POS I got off Ebay but not much better. the Taiyo worked awesome and are only about .10 to .20 cents more per disc. Unless you don't care if your movie plays

OH BTW the Media code on the Taiyo disc I bought were the TYG02 ones. Paid $30.00 at www.rima.com
