I'm having a bit of trouble IC 7.1.1, for some reason, all of my current DVD BUs have had glitches during playback (ie. sound drop-outs, jerky playback).
This all started when I clean-installed XP Pro over my previous Home install. Everything worked great before, now... see above.
Now before the suggestions start, I'm using the same installer as before, the same media (as well as it being from the same batch) and finally, the same burner.
So the next thing I did was restore XP Home from my comps original discs. So everything should be back to normal... nope, same problems.
So I guess what I'm actually asking is... is there something I need to install with IC to get it to work right (ie. MPEG2 codec, drivers, etc.)?
BTW, I have also tried using IC 8.0.3... still has the same problems.
I know I could probably use a diff app (DVDShrink for example), but I like the way IC handles episodic discs.
Thank you in advance for any information provided.

This might not be the answer you're looking for, but I think you need to reformat....
anytime you install over another installation, random things could potentially go wrong...
especially if you restored back to the original after you installed over it with something else.
I recommend a total reformat of your HDD and then reinstalling all codecs and IC 7 or 8 whichever you like.
I make it a habbit to reformat my HDD every year at the least. -
That's just it... the problem arose "after" I re-formated and upgraded. Then again after I restored the original OS (basically down-grading). What I'm wondering is if IC needs something (other than the actually app itself) to work properly. Like a codec or ASPI file that I have forgotten about, since my original installation (back when it worked well).
But yes I did do another HD re-format/upgrade. Now I'm thinking about chucking IC and using DVDRebuilder/CCE.
I thank you for your assistance though.
BTW, is Adaptec ASPI or Nero ASPI (or both) still needed to make these apps (any apps, not just IC or DVD-RB/CCE) work right? Even with XP SP2? -
what speed are you burning it at after you create the pdi??
this might have nothing to do with it, but I know from personal experience with my equipment (Plextor 8x burner, pioneer and philips dvd players) that if I burn any movie in any format (VOBs, *.img, *.iso, *.pdi) at 8x on 8x medai with either Nero or DVD Decrypter, the movie gets very jumpy and glitchy, but if I do the same movie with the same proggy at 4x instead it works fine.
Just a thought -
Could also be that your player is getting older and not burning as well. Could just be a coincidence that it started happening at the same time you upgraded XP.
Though it may seem an odd suggestion, I think upgrading your burner's firmware might help. -
papaholmz: I burn a 2x always (I think it goes back to PSX/VCD days where you didn't burn games/video faster than 2x)
skebenin: Nope, the burner is fine. It burns straight BUs (ones that don't require compression) fine.
I thank you both for the suggestions though.
