I connected a coax cable from my PC Spidf output to my receiver to hear 5.1/6.1 CH xVid audio and got only analog. What decoders should my receiver support (it supports Dolby digital and DTS)? Does it need a MPEG4/5 decoder, is there such a thing??
On my sound card there are 2 options, SPIDF RAW or PCM, does that mean anything?
Thanks,
Larry

What sound card do you have? I do this all the time without problems from my home theatre PC (nforce2 chipset) Try playing a CD on the computer and get the digital output to work with your reciever first before you try 5.1 sound.
Your receiver does not need any sort of mpeg decoder, that is for video only. -
I have an on board soundmax (Asus P4P800S main board) that supports 5.1, not sure about 6.1 but that's not important right now.
Sound I get from the digital output, but it's not surround. Also, you mean the receiver is not decoding, but rather it's decoded in the PC then sent via the digital output?
