  1. I have a panasonic SA-HT75. It's a 5 disc home theater in a box.
Last night I was fast forwarding at it highest speed until it reached the end of the DVD. Then the sucker froze trying to go to the main menu. Now it's hite or miss that it will spin up any disc that I put in or after I hit stop.

Took it apart, not that I know anything about players, but heck it already doesn't work right, and I found that if I manualy give the disc a little spin, it will read the disc fine and start playing the DVD.

Does this sound like the motors going bust to you?

If so, should I get it repair $$? or should I go out and get another inexpensive HTIB? I was thinking Koss KS3102 for $150us... which is what I paid for the panasonic

Anyone now anything about players? Heck maybe I can fix it myself, that is if I knew what to do....

  2. Panasonic spindle motors are very problem prone. The motor is about $30 + shipping.

  3. cool so it is replaceable?
Do you have to be an authorized repair shop to get the parts?
How do I find the part # I need? They don't even have the model listed anywhere on their site anymore. I tried a full search and came up with nothing.

Now figure in shipping and tax...betcha it will come out to around $95
I can get a Koss with more wattage for $150 + tax
or a noname for $88 + tax at wally world

What sucks is, I wanted to get a DVR for around the same price. Now I'll have to wait...Think I'll just use the manual spin-up with my fingure till the whole thing dies.

  7. MCM sells the motor by itself for $28 if I remember right. I don't remember the number though. You might be able to get the number from partssolver.

  8. I ended up getting an Apex HT-170
    http://www.apexdigitalinc.com/proddetail.asp?category=Home%20Theater&subcat=&linenumber=99

    Picked it up for $89 + $15 for 2 year warranty + tax = Total $112
It doesn't have a 5 disc changer like my panasonic, but I never used it anyway....
