  1. I have about 1300 movie clips in one file (I created an SVCD). Is there a way I can convert these movie clips to JPG files?

    Hello,

    Huh???

If you're talking about screen shots I think you have to do that manually with powerdvd on each frame.

You might be able to do it with virtualdubmod but I'm not sure....

VirtualDubMod would work. Load it and then hit file/save image sequence. It will output a bmp for each frame and then you could batch encode these to jpg using Irfanviewer. It would only take a min or so.

Unzip all files and double-click the one that is named "setup.exe"

ok, ok, do I need the capability to view the svcd sequence on my computer? Normally, I just view the cd in my standalone DVD player.

  9. Most DVD playing software have a capture function. I use WinDVD and often capture .jpg stills from movie clips.

  10. I am sorry I have to ask, but how do I load a clip into TMPGenc? Please see this post...

To even classify myself as novice is inappropriate.

    Thanks!

People love to answer questions around here, even one that is basic as yours. But not constantly. Just some friendly advice, try it yourself. I don't have Tmpgenc but I'll guess it came with a help file -or- there will be one available on there site.

Within this help file I'll venture to guess that the first thing that is covered is how to insert a clip into the timeline. I'l also venture to guess that if you browse through the Menu Bar on the top of tmpgenc (file edit view.....) you'll find a something somwhere that says insert or import..... try that.

    Edit: or source

You want to look in the mpeg2 directory and load the mpg file(s). By default, TMPGenc may not load it. You can try going into Environmental options/VFAPI plugins and increasing the direct show file reader's priority so that it is on top of the list. The better option is to frameserve via dvd2avi. This is really the best way to load mpeg2 files into TMPGenc.

Personally I think VdubMod or frameserving to Vdub is faster and easier and it gives you more control. Export to bmp files and then encode to jpg with Irfanviewer using its batch encode. The whole process from start to finish will take like 1 min.

Using TMPGenc for this process may cause some undesirable results since it will decode and encode according to whatever settings you have enabled. So by default, your jpgs will have their luminence ranges compressed as if they were intended to be viewed on a tv. Maybe this is what you want, I don't know. But the point is that most people probably won't even realize that their pics are being altered like this.

this probably does not qualify as an error message, but how should I proceed?

seems like you are asking two completely different questions here -- the error above i assume is from your standalone player ?

if it is -- i would on a hunch say that you have to turn your PBC (you will have to dig out your manual)

  22. the message listed above is if I load the mpg file. I CAN load the movie clips one by one, but it would obviously be a pain to go through saving 1,308 files as bmp files, one by one. what do I need to do?

I don't think you get proper aspect in the JPG's if you use VDubMod. In other words, your NTSC SVCD will give you 480x480 images, which will not look right....they will have to be both resized *and* converted to JPG.

This is one reason why I capture with PowerDVD....though that does not sound practical in your case....in your case, you'll want to find a batch image resizer and converter.

By the way, I am wondering about the case when you want an image from each minute (e.g.) of the video? Is there a software that will batch grab stills from a video and let you specify the time or frame interval between grabs?

  25. ok, here is the prognosis...

I was told to use vdubmod, but when I attempt to load the mpg file, I get the message (from the computer, not a standalone dvd player)

SVCD player required, please turn on PBC to show photos

Now, I can load the movie clips one by one, but this would obviously be a pain with over 1300 files (loading and saving to bmp).

I was also told to try tmpgenc, but even after increasing the direct show file reader's priority so that it is on top of the list, I still couldn't get the mpg to load. So, what to do now? I can't believe that it can be that complicated to change movie clip files to jpg files. Do I need to load dvd2avi?

    HELP!!!!!!!

There's something seriously wrong with your system.

Both Vdubmod and tmpgenc will both take mpegs as input, provided you have the codec on your system.

Download G-Spot and make sure you have an MPEG-2 Codec installed on your computer.

  28. Am I having a problem with this file because it is an AVSEQ01 file? Is this a special type of file? The SVCD disk was created with VCDeasy. I downloaded gspot and opened the file (this is the name of the file)

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\SVCD\MPEG2\AVSEQ01. MPG

This is, or appears to be, an unsupported file type.

Based on its composition, Gspot believes the filetype to be

    "RIFF/CDXA-->MPEG (.MPG/.MPEG/.VOB)"

When I click the render button, it says rendering failed.

Does this info help? FYI, I do not have a DVD-ROM on my computer, just a plain CD-ROM, and no DVD software...

Well, you need the RIFF/CDA filter if you want to be able to play it as is....

The next time you extract something from an SVCD or VCD, you should use ISOBuster, and use the option to "extract only M2F frames" (or something like that).

What you have is a "DAT" file!

You can convert DAT to mpg with the freeware VCDGear....
    Quote Quote
  30. ok, I downloaded VCDgear, and when I load the AVSEQ file (and select dat to mpeg as the extraction / conversion), I get the message "could not locate mpeg stream." now what? good grief!
