  1. I turn on my PC, and before messenger signs me in, I get a friend chatting me up. Remember, this is before I sign in...and this freaky little window pops up...any ideas why!?

  6. Maybe it is set to launch MSN upon startup, and log a user in automatically. You'll find both those options in the "Settings..." box, as well as a setting to rid you of that cursed "MSN Today" pop-up.

That might be why. Anyone else been using your PC?

I have hotmail and every time I fire up the mail it starts messenger. I finally got it so it doesn't automatically log me in.

I'm using Skype text and voice now. I miss the "XXXX is typing" feature of MSN, but I don't want a heavy-handed app like that. I don't want to be logged in whenever my machine is on. Same with Skype. I've gotten requests to authorize several times from people I never even heard of. Sad that they would resort to chatting with a perfect stranger to get some company

Sorry to semi-jack the thread. But I'm also venting about MSN messenger ...the damn thing gets its tendrils into your PC
