  1. What software can I use that will allow me to edit DV AVI audio, without having to re-render the whole file? I've tried Adobe Audition and Sony Sound Forge/Vega Movie Studio. Everytime I edit some audio, and then export back to DV AVI, it re-renders the whole 1 1/2 hour file and takes a long time! Please help.

What are the settings you use when you edit and save audio with Sound Forge? Do you use 44 or 48 hz? Please check it out. Just in time: how do u export audio to DV AVI?

Hello, I tried to duplicate what I think you are doing, although I do not have Vega Movie Studio, I am using vegas5, but I think the two programs should be similar.
I opened the DV-AVI file in Vegas and then exported the audio track as a wav file, edited it in sound forge and then imported it back to Vegas and replaced the original audio track with the new one. I then exported the new DV-AVI and it did not render the video it only re-mixed the two. Render time was very quick. The biggest issue is as Cunhambebe said, make sure the audio format does not change ex. 48 kHz or 44 kHz.
I am sure someone probable knows of a free ware program that would de mux and re mux an DV-AVI file.

Long message not much help sorry.
