  1. I'm getting a lot of the pointed errors above roughly at least a few every few seconds.I want to know where it is coming from like is it the tape,my vcr which is a panasonic consumer model which I got for 90$ last year. Also how can I fix this problem and are there any virtualdub filters are something to fix it if I can't do it on my hardware.

And lastly could I just drop the frame in virtualdub some how?(It would be a lot and some videos I transfer are 80<X and that would take an awfully long time.

    -Thanks

Hello-That looks like a "dropout". They were very common in the analog only video editing days. If I remember correctly, they were most common on Hi8 tapes. I'm pretty sure it's a video tape problem. If it is a dropout, when you replay the tape, the dropout should appear in the same spot of the tape each time it is played.

It looks like either the recording VCR had a dirty head or your playback unit has one.

Try cleaning all the heads including the big spinning video head

(Don't forget the rubber rollers and the audio and control heads)

Are the "errors" also visible if you play it back on the TV? (with the same VCR that is)?

If not it could also be a chipset issue. I have seen those errors before with conflicting hardware.

Actually I either don't notice it or they don't show up when I playback the tape and watch it on my tv.I can notice the occasional weird errors and such but for the most part it looks fine.I bought this Scotch High Performance VCR Head Cleaner I hope to try,I need to clean my heads anyway I guess I've played tapes from all over on it.
