  1. I got a new pc equiped with a nec 3500a dvd burner. So I decided to make copies of some of my dvds. I use dvd decrypter to extract them and dvd shrink to compress them and create an image file. I burn using nero at 8x. Everything went fine, but on all 4 burned dvds, the movie pauses on my sony dvd player about 1 hour into the movie (different time points) and has trouble going further. It takes about 10 seconds, but it then skips 4-20 seconds of the movie and then plays on without further trouble.

My first guess is that the Ritek G05 (8x) silver matte discs are the problem and I'll get some different discs today to test this out. But has anyone else every had this problem? The original movies play fine, so I know it is not the source material. How would I know if it were the burner? I got no error messages from any of the software programs including nero.

  2. Try burning at 4X or even 2X and see if your DVD still stutters.

  3. Good idea. I'll try that. assuming ti works, does that mean I shouldn't expect to burn at 8x at all or just with these discs or is it just trial and error.

  4. The only times I have had that problem it turned out to be the media. Now I use only TDK or TY media and never have any problems.

  5. I ordered some Ty discs yesterday from Rima and hopefully they will arrive tomorrow. I hope your experience turns out to be mine.

  6. OK, thanks everyone, burning at 2x did the trick. Should I interpret this as a bad set of discs or a problem with the burner?
