  1. what are these ?
I got them alongwith the .avi format.
I can play the .avi on my DIVX player , but what to do with these 2 file extensions. Do I burn them as-it-is with that '.avi' file[ in all making it 3 files on the same disc ] ?

    TIA

those are subtitles if you don't need subtitles then you may not include them in the burning

yes, I have a standalone divx player.

I'not sure if I still got it ....

since I want to play the avi + sub on a standalone divx player, can I just burn the '.' files as-they-are on the disc ?

it depends if your divx player supports .sub/.idx. Check the manual. Some players supports srt text subtitles, you can convert .sub/.idx to srt with vobsub or subrip or download srt subs from www.extratitles.to .

I just checked and my player supports "SRT Untertiteln " ....so I guess I know now where to go from here.
    Mucho Thx.

  8. I have an avi that has subtitles in the with the extensions .sub and .idx (and a 3rd .sfv). I have no idea what I am doing. I can make the computer burn a DVD, but want the subtitles to go along on the DVD as well so I can watch it on my DVD player. Any ideas?

    I am using Nero.
P.S. I am totally new to all of this. I think that the subs may be "forced subtitles" as they are on The Passion of the Christ. (haven't seen it yet)

  9. Howdy....

I don't think I would be of much help here.
I tried to burn the subs alongwith the avi and running the thing on my divx player just plays the avi [so what's new ] and there's no subs..
[ eventhough the subs are there on the disc ]

so I gave up....and contain myself with just the 'english' knowledge I have in my head :P
