  1. Hey all,
I am planning to purchase my first batch of Taiyo Yuden CDs, but don't know which to get. Here is what I see offered online:
    Taiyo Yuden CDR regular?
Taiyo Yuden CDR silver inkjet printable
Taiyo Yuden CDR printable/white lacquer on spindle
    added two more:
    Taiyo Yuden CDR silver/light blue
    Taiyo Yuden CDR white printable

I like to write with my marker on the CD surface, this is what I used recently:

I think that is a matte finish? Anyway if anyone has pics of the surface of Taiyo Yuden CDs or know what they look like etc, that would help me a lot!

The first one you mentioned (regular) is the only one that is intended to be written on. The last two are inkjet printable disks. They are for a cd/DVD printer.

  3. Actually, you'll be able to write on any of them with a marker. Inkjet printables are sometimes more expensive, and that'd be a waste of money if you're just going to write on them.

I agree a matte finish is easier to write on, but most manufacturer direct silver media has a smooth polished finish with no branding or marks of any kind. You can still write on it - it's just more 'slippery' and there are no lines to follow (though with no branding, the space for marking is much larger).

I'm not sure what silver inkjet printable is. I thought all inkjet printables had to be white, and silver printables were only for thermal printing.

Well of course you can write on any of them with a marker, but like I said, the regular ones are the only ones that are intended to be written on. Also depending on the marker you use, the ink may just wipe right off the inkjet printables.

Silver inkjet printables are cool. They sort of emulate the look of alot of DVDs that don't have full face pictures on them, but just some text and logos with the reflective surface showing through everywhere else. Depending on the colors you use, any images you print on them appear sort of holographic.
