  1. I don't think so.
    • There is no longer a significant price difference between CDR and DVDR media (2-3 CDRs per movie versus 1 DVDR)
    • DVD spec supports SVCD-like resolutions when needed (352x480)
    • DVD supports much higer bitrates
    • With DVD, there's little issue with finding a compatible player
    • DVD allows "more" in terms of audio, overlay graphics, and menus

    In short, DVD is about the same price per minute of video, has more flexibility, has more features, and has greater compatibility.
