Cant erase DVD-RW

Also cant seem to get response to this problem at various sites.
Anyway....try to erase DVD-RW disc by right-clicking on drive, selecting
"Erase this disc". Message appears that some app. is attempting to burn or write to the drive. Did get one suggestion that perhaps RecordNow was the culprit. I removed the program....same glitch.
Only app. that I found that had an "erase" function was ...RecordNow.
It also would not work....same message appears.
Any way to find what is locking onto the drive, and why would that prevent the erase function anyway?

Worked !! Thanks. Tried to view disc (as empty) and message popped up that the disc was unknown format (or ?). But had no problem on next burn,even though program I used generated another message...like disc is not empty, would you like to erase?. Chose yes, ...seconds later it was ready. Not sure about 2 message pop-ups, but no problems.

I've found that DVD Movie Factory V3 sometimes does not like to erase my disk prior to a rewrite. I'll have to use another app like Sonic or Roxio to erase it.
