The best way to go about it is to go to the guides section (link below), go to the format conversion box and select "avi to dvd." You will get a list of comprehensive step by step guides that will help you.

I use TMPGEnc if that helps.

  4. I would like to add onto this topic. I have used TMPGEnc to convert from avi to MPEG but now I am unsure about the next step. How do I create a final DVD of my home video after converting with TMPGEnc?

I tried to use Sonic MyDVD to make a DVD but I did not know which file to use in SonicMyDVD.

    Any help would be appreciated!

the files you made in tmpgenc would be the files to use in MyDVD

  6. If you are using Sonic MyDVD, you can use either the original .avi file or the converted .mpg file from TmpGenc. Sonic will convert the file for you to a dvd compliant file so that you don't have to use a program like TmpGenc or CCE.

  7. Thanks for your quick replies!

I want to get away from using Sonic MyDVD because I need to fit 2 hrs of higher quality video on one DVD and I don't think I can do this MyDVD (or can I?). I was planning to use a different (yet to be determined) application to actually burn the DVD. Any reccomendations? Thanks!

TEMPGEnc DVD Author (TDA) will author a DVD (make menus and create the DVD structure) and burn to disc.

  9. If you use MyDVD at "Best Quality" for 2 hours of footage, you are correct in assuming that it will not fit on one DVD. If you are looking for the best quality, you should use a program like TmpGenc or CCE to encode the video and then use TmpGenc DVD Author to author and burn to DVD.
