It's been a while since I've used AE and the last version I've used was 6.0. If the clip you outputed has a true Alpha Channel, it should be a 32 bit RGB not 24 bit RGB.
You may want to check the properties of the clip to make sure.Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........ -
Everytime i render with "rgb and alpha" and try to load it back into after effects it doesn't ask me how to load it. Like it does with the clip i included with the IMAGE.
AE and Premiere PRo for that matter, automatically detects the Alpha Channel, so it doesn't ask you anything..It's quite nice actually, rather than always having to tell it that there's an Alpha channel.
But since you're adding a separate Alpha channel, on top of your video, AE wants to know what you want to do with it..
I'll bet that if you render out that exact same clip, and import it again, you won't get the dialogue box..
The important thing, is to check under your comp. screen, and click the "alpha channel" button..IF it's there, then AE knew it all along..
Just a guess
BTW, you should be able to tell if you have an alpha channel via the preview box on the top left..You can see a video sample, and the basic properties.. -
I know that when I save video with an alpha layer in Boris Red, that it has to be rendered as 'uncompressed' to save it as 32bit. If it renders to anything else, then it saves at 24bit and you lose the alpha.
