  1. Hello
How is it possible to make a dvd-ripped movie of 2 hours to fit in a 700megs cd and still get really good quality.

I got "the mexican" a movie of 2 hours(downloaded from the net) and it's really great quality and "only" 700megs.

In all my attempts to make a divx copy from a dvd using Smartripper and then either flaskmpeg or dvd2avi i find it impossible to get that good quality in 1cd.

Is there any other methods that is more "proffesional" and not awalibile for the common people when you're making divx movies. Or how does this guys manage it?

    /Mr Walker

  2. yup convert it to a divx movie file and you can put it on a single cd but you cant play it on DVD Players or VCD players

It is possible the 700Mb 'quality' movies of which you speak were encoded with a 2pass VBR.

Under 'properties/details' what is the codec used?

  7. The 2-pass vbr helps the quality and also notice the resolution 640x272. Cropping off the black bars from the letterboxing and also slightly reducing the resolution from 720x480 makes the most of the low bitrate.

    Just to jump in.

Surely you're not talking, actually playing those in a standalone dvd player?

640x272 don't sound like VCD or xVCD, let alone, play in any stand alone dvd
player. In fact, I would go as far as saying that these are NOT VCDs in any
way, ...as vcd's are for playing in dvd players.

And, as a test, I made a quick encode with these settings 640x272, and both
my Apex dvd players did not play them!

    Go figure!

  9. I'm sorry if my first post wasn't all clear, but we're talking divx all the way on this one. Never intended to use a standalone here.

This is the method used, it's similar to two pass MPEG2, but using DivX. It can give amazing results. But it is complicated.
