Thank you one and all. I think I shall have to brush up on my present day slang!

I must admit that since joining this forum, my knowledge, with the benefit of the forum's members, has increased fourfold.

Hello there-The AVT-8710 TBC is a pretty good value for about $200.USD. The TBC is pretty good, the video processing features are not bad either. As a standalone unit, you can use it between two VCRs or a DVD recorder as well. It does not require any computer resources to run. I'm sure the TBC-100 is a quality unit as well. Time for a wallet check.

Checked my wallet - almost empty (as usual). Am still lwaning toward the TBC-1000 although the AVT-8710 looks to be a good deal.

Have finally bitten the bullet and ordered a TBC-1000 from Germany. Cost including shipping and taxes was 307 Euros (397USD).
Made enquiries in UK and the cheapest was 443Euros (308 GBP/573USD) again including taxes and shipping.
Had considered buying on Ebay (339 USD/262Euros inc shipping and taxes) but so far the French have charged me duty on every item bought from the US so it would work out dearer and take longer.
The only French outlet I could find wanted over 500 Euros!

Before I saw the light and bought a TBC-1000, I was almost to the point of giving up on VHS transfers. Every fifth or sixth capture had severe lip-sync issues. I'd recapture and it'd still be there. So I put those aside and continued.

Then I found out about TBCs on another video forum and bought one. The first thing I did was cap one of the troublesome tapes. Perfect capture! Now whenever I'm transferring tapes, I give the TBC-1000 a little affectionate pat

I have a couple of 'troublesome' tapes that were recorded some years ago. Hopefully the TBC will allow me to transfer them to DVD.
I have also been asked if I can transfer a tape which itself was transferred from an old 8mm film. This is of a nearby town and I think dates from the 1960's. Haven't seen the tape yet but am looking forward to trying it out.

It will probably help a great deal. Copying tapes always degrades the timing of the copy unless a TBC is inserted at the first generation. Even though you have a 2nd. gen copy, it should clean it up quite a bit.

The TBC-1000 also has a 4-output distribution amp if you get the desire to make multiple copies of one tape

Let us know how that works out for you. I love hearing success stories

I have just ordered a TBC-1000 from VideoGuys (Australia). Should arrive in the few days. Some of the tapes I am about to convert are originals, but are up to 20 years old (my original college films). Even though they have only been watched a couple of times, there is a lot of bleed and colour shift and noise just because of the age. I've been around long enough to expect miracles, but this should help a lot.

I'd like to thank everyone who threw their two cents into this discussion for helping me decide what to purchase.

I couldn't agree more. Most helpful forum I've come across.
