I bought an 80 G firewire external hard drive in March to use exclusively for editing DV video. Didn't really use it until a few weeks ago. It doesn't want to initialize (be seen by the computer) without turning it off and on 12 or 15 times.
I've tried turning ExHD off, rebooting PC, let PC initialize and then turn on ExHD. Tried turning them on at the same time. Tried turning the ExHD off and on while computer is running.
Is there a routine I should be following for success?

I would try to remove the firewire card, boot the PC. Then reinstall the firewire card. If might be going bad. I had a similar situation with one of my USB2 external drives, and it turned out to be the USB2 card.
