no image when playing avi

dear all,
I see no image when playing a .avi file... i've tried to open with windows media player and GDIvX and realplayer. I only hear the sound of the movie.
Windows Media player could not find the codec for displaying the file... Why is this so? please help!

HI,
I've downloaded DivX alpha 3.11 to play that avi file. It works!
However I have a problem, when i play the movie, i notice that there wasn't a smooth transition from one frame to another as the image looks jerky. Moreoever, the sound does not align with the movie. The sound comes in earlier than the image. How can I solve this problem?

Now I'm also facing a problem of the video upside down... help!!!
