Is this like "Mad TV" or something like that?

I dont know what "Mad TV" is so I can't really compare but it was a sketch show that had very strange and sometimes disturbing scenes - amongst my favourites was The World Championship Staring Competition, an animated sketch of two people staring at each other.

  4. Nothing like Mad TV. It's funny and rather strange.
Mad is just boring, badly improvised ill fitting sketch
    comedy with few laughs.

Now where's my copy of the League of Gentlemen

    You've seen Big Train ?

But Auntie Val, you said today was nude day!

I laughed so much the blood dripped from my nose

    You've seen Big Train ?
Yep. The 1st & 2nd series was aired about 3 years ago. Stare-Out
was just too funny. Remember that Russian or Eastern European
champion with the weirdly sketched eyes?

Was it Big Train or League that had that short sketch in the
start about the dumb boy (man) choosing a porno magazine
and the facial interplay between the vendor and the boy as
they wordlessly exchange information until the right magazine, a
spread on Dog's "behinds", is selected? I get the two mixed
up but I nearly died seieing that sketch.

Nude day that was a cracker - my favourite was Papa Lazaru "Hello Dave ? Is Dave there ? Dave ?"

I love the stare out it was amazing - the commentary made it for though, stuff like "look at this, the pressure is relentless I don't know how he hasn't cracked - Oh, he going, yes there are the tell tale signs . . ." when absolutely nothing was happening on screen.

Hmmmmmm - could be either but I dont recall it. If its as dark as it sound then its more likely to be League.

Did I mention that I saw League Of Gentlemen live at St Davids Hall in Cardiff - amazing stuff, very, very funny. It started out on the radio IIRC.

You're thinking of the league offline, i believe the mag was called "Dogs Arsehloes" sold by the lad running the news stand - who later gets disowned by his "pop" for loosing all the chocolate bars to a shoplifter. good stuff

  9. @ flan I knew it was what you called it but I thought "behind"
was a better um...term for this forum. Thanks for recalling it was from TLG.
I still recollect the dogs with their perked up "behinds" covered with the
    "censor star". ROTFL

    @ VCD Hunter

So you saw the League Of Gentlemen live !!!? That must have
been a riot I never knew they did live stuff or were on radio.
Is any of their radio stuff on sale?

That's the problem living in the colonies; you miss the live
stuff. I keep missing the Red Dwarf Shows

Damn, if it was not for League and a couple of other U.K.
shows I would still be thinking I was alone in my sickness

My dream would be to write a management book
with Chris Barrie. If you have ever seen The Brittas Empire
you would know what I mean. Those John Cleese training
videos are badly in need of being updated. Brittas would
    be just the ticket

BTW Chris Barrie plays the hologram in the Dwarf series.
He is my Fav. character. They are all great really!!

Anyone heard if there are plans to bring back Believe Nothing? It's my favorite british comedy. I've gotta find out if Triple-Prof. Cnut gets in the female prof's pants (what's her name again .."Prof. Annoying" or something like that?)

And ...I've gotta find out if Cnut "goes over" and submits to his man-servant Albumin's advances

Is that the one with the teenager who when introduced to
his friends grandmother thinks "helloooo" and there is
obviously some unhealthy attraction going on

If so I think I missed the 1st series on free to air. Damn!

  17. That's the one, its a sick show but funny. Series 2 is currently on BBC3 here and whilst its still pretty good it's a poor mans The Fast Show to be honest - I still like it though.

  18. I would not say it was a poor mans fast show, there are bits in it that have me laughing more than I ever did at the fast show, and I liked the fast show.

  19. I remember it well

"You've just joined us for the 23rd world stare out championships... Oh he's blinked its all over"

oh and Little Britian rules the 21st century comedy scene
DVD region settings are a joke, I can't believe how stupid people are falling for it

I like it and its still about the funniest thing on at the moment but quite a few of the characters dont stand up to repetition. Take "Bitty" for example, first sketch was amazing, but the second time ? Not only is it the same character but its also the same joke.

The two octogenarian women, one of whom throws up all the time - humour ? Dafyd, the only gay in the village was very funny first time round but series two still has him in ridiculous costumes but the gag now seems to be getting others around him to ask if he's getting any "arse action"(Ruth Madoc). Don't even get me started on the college administrator who insults her students.

All in all Little Britain may be the best comedy programme on at the moment but being the best doesn't necessarily make you good.

as noted offline, watch out for little briatin - it's great stuff.

One of my favourite bits it actually in the opening titles of the new series, vicky pollard with a six way push chair reminds me every time of "swapped it for a west life cd..."
