I've noticed that commercial titles have a much lower volume level than my own captures. Some DVDs we have to jack the volume way up to hear the dialog.

The only suggestion I can think of is to demux the VOB files into the video and audio elemental streams (Vobrator is good for this), then open in your editor and save the sound as a .WAV (LPCM).

Then you can use an app like Goldwave to change the volume ...save ....open the new audio .WAV with your video editor, along with the video stream from the demux operation, and have the editor reencode with the new audio when it saves it as an MPEG file. Don't forget to put the audio settings the same as what the original sound stream was ....AC3, MP2, etc, 48,000 hz, probably 224 kbps

Then you need to author the file into a VOB and rename it to what the original file was named, then copy and paste into the directory where the other VOBs are stored. Discard the new .IFO and .BUP files you just generated. You'll have to repeat this for each VOB file.

It's time-consuming and maybe someone else has a better way, but this is the way I've done it and I can't comment on another, possibly faster way to do it - perhaps finding an editor that'll open the .VOBs directly and allow you to tweak the audio volume without demuxing? Someone here will know if that's possible

  3. I'm using kordian knot to rip to divx and i use for the sound the AC3-codec. I tried to open it in soundforge, but it looks like not working.

Isn't there a way that the soundlevel is adjusted automatically or that we adjust it befor the divx is made, without exporting to a wav-file

Since you're asking about DVD ripping to Divx, I'm going to move this to the DVD to (S)VCD, AVI forum as that's a better place for this question and I'm hoping you'll get more responses there than you are here

  5. Sound is too low when playing DivX movies

We've found that the problem with really low volume in DivX movies is usually caused by the movies using the AC3 audio codec. The default volume for the AC3 codec is quite low, so raising the regular volume controls might not be enough for some movies. To fix the problem, simply goto the Start menu in Windows, select "Settings" and then the "Control Panel". If you have the AC3 codec installed on your system you should see the "AC3 Filter" listed there. Simply open the "AC3 Filter" and from there you should be able to change the Master volume, and even the volume of individual channels such as the Voice channel.
