DR DIVX

Have just bought a divx player and wanted to try out backing up a rare DVD I had bought in the states.
If I choose the files in DrDivx it doesnt seem to select all the vob files. It tells me that my movie is 40 minutes when I know it is 1 hr 17 mins.

Any suggestions please.

Dr.Divx is unfortunately very buggy - it is particularly troublesome with MPG and VOB files - I've given up trying to get it to process these.
It often does what you are experiencing, it gives up if it encounters what it thinks is an inconsistency in the source file.
It can be good for AVI sources and I use it often for this but when I need to process non-AVI sources I use another DIVX front-end. For VOBs I use VIDOMI.

I recommend you also find another tool to process your VOBS.

If your just backing up just the movie, try using a stand alone dvd ripper like Smartripper to rip out the main movie, then try Dr Divx. I remember in the past Dr.Divx would only look in the first VTS files which isn't good considering alot of DVDs are now putting the main movies in VTS2 or later

I came across the same problem & to get around it I simply renamed the VOB files based on the first VOB file so that they were sequential. DrDivX then picked up on all of them & converted to DivX AVI perfectly.

e.g.
started with: sequentially renamed to:
VTS_01_1.VOB VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_02_1.VOB VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_02_2.VOB VTS_01_4.VOB

Thanks to all who responded - your time is appreciated - i managed in the end by using smartripper to rip just the movie out and then Dr Divx picked up everything.
