    I'm transfering some TV shows from VCD to DVD. The files are in .DAT format, each about 400-410 mb in size. I've transferred all but one, which for some reason won't "work" right.

    I have been copying and pasting the AVSEQ01.DAT files from the VCDs to the hard drive, then changing the file extension from .DAT to .mpg, and changing the file name (Episode 1.mpg, Episode 2.mpg, etc.). This worked for 15 out of 16 discs. However, for disc 15 of 16, when I try to copy and paste the AVSEQ01.DAT file from the VCD to my hard drive, I get a pop up window with the following error message:

    <The file E:\MPEGAV\AVSEQ01.DAT could not be read.>

    I've tried using VCDGear to change it from .DAT to .MPG, but I got a similar message:

    <E:\MPEGAV\AVSEQ01.DAT can not be copied. MS DOS error.>

    I used NERO 6 to turn the AVSEQ01.DAT file into an NRG file, and then I tried to use VCDGear to turn the NRG file into an MPEG file, but I got another message, something like (can’t remember exactly and didn’t write it down):

    <Could not find sectors on AVSEQ01.DAT/MPEG>

    None of the ways I could think of to turn the .DAT file into an .MPG file are working. Twice I thought I was able to copy the .DAT file, but the first time I burned it it was about 10 minutes short of the original file. The next time I ran it through TMPGEnc DVD Author and checked it first, and it was even shorter, about half as long as it was supposed to be; I have no idea why it would only copy part of the file.

    So, I am stumped. I can't figure out how to get this file off of the VCD so I can put it onto a DVD (I'm just learning how to do this.). I'm basically condensing 16 VCDs into 2 DVDs.

    Does anyone have any ideas on what I’m doing wrong, or how I can copy this file and/or translate it to an .mpg file?

  2. It looks a lot like the file on the disk is no good. Could be many things that are the cause. Scrathed disk maybe... Try giving the disk a very good clean then copy to h/d using windows.

    Well, cleaning the disc didn't help at all, but ISOBuster did the trick - thanks for the help!
