  1. I also have all three. It's Mad Max, Mad Max II, Mad Max III: Beyond Thunderdome :P: Titles sometimes vary between countries and
almost all mainstream films are sound edited for local English
culture and language differences between US / Brit & Aus.

Did you know that Mad Max 4: Fury Road
is in pre production, and yes. Mel is signed up!

No it is not, or the bumblebee wouldn't fly.

What you mean is that equations and modelling we have for describing things like flow (which are approximations) probably don't have the complexity or accuracy to adequately explain HOW a bumblebee flies.

Actually, for many years that was a rumor, that I knew many had heard and I just threw it out there. Scientifically speaking, the wings do displace enough air and create enough downforce to elevate the mass of the body. Which should be common sense for most but for years that was just accepted. Newton and Kepler knew WTF they were doing Nothing goes against the laws of physics.

EDIT: Sorry Sac. I saw your post after I put mine in.

DId you know that using heater tubes and hard wired circuitry with punch cards to replace the integrated circuitry of a Pentium 100 and similar circuits on it's mother board, you would require 4 buildings the size of the Sears tower in Chicago, IL to contain it all. and the clock speed would be 30 times slower due to human labor.

Did you know the first mechanical production line was set up in 1802 to produce pulley blocks for the english navy?

The first production line weapon was an 1853 rifle, which allowed soldiers to order or swap identical damaged components as the need arose.

1/2 points were outlawed centuries ago.

Can there be 1/2 a point?

  22. Did you know that the biggest mass extinction in the history of this planet was brought around by algae? The atmosphere back then was very rich in carbon dioxide. Once photosynthesis evolved as a means to use sunlight to power sysnthesis of sugars from simple elements, the atmosphere began to fill up with a deadly poisonous gas - oxygen. Organisms unable to cope with the damage oxygen does were wiped out, and the few capable of tolerating or even using it proliferated.

Oxygen has been described as the first ever addictive substance. You depend upon it for survival, but it will eventually be your undoing.

  24. Did you know that identical twins are not identical? They are genetically identical, but are mirror images of one another. If you know any identical twins, ask to see their hair partings.

They are also mirror images internally, too. This is why one twin is much more likely to have heart problems at birth - the heart is leaning to the wrong side.
    Quote Quote
  25. Cobra, who told you that? Because you are wrong.

They are not "mirror images" of each other.

There may be a slight increase in dextrocardia or Katargener's syndrome in monozygotic twins but it is not a rule... and there is no reason for there to be either.

In addition, identical twins are not entirely genetically identical either. There will be some mitochondrial differences. Also, there are usually differences to which of the pair of chromosomes are inactivated.

Twins per se are more likely to have problems than singletons.

Conjoined twins with separate hearts will often have one twin with reversed organs.

  26. I was told this in a cell biology lecture. So, 130 students now have incorrect notes... Wonderful!

It was just a "by-the-way" point, anyway. I think he wanted to add a little interest to the lecture.

  27. What an odd thing to put in a lecture...

Reminds me of a story about US medical students in anatomy. Seemed like in this particular class, it was widely assumed that females had one less rib than males (as per the Genesis story). AND they saw it in the cadavers too, until the lecturer/tutor counted them one by one with the class...

My sisters are identical twins. They're not mirror images. When they were younger they were so close in appearance only myself and my parents could tell them apart.

I'll try to dig up some pics when they were younger

Edit: Here's one from my web site. I'll try to find more:

BTW: L-to-R my cousin Cheryl, my sister Candi, my sister Shelley, the Capmaster, my cousin Linda

Edit: So as not to hijack this thread, I'll start a shameless Capmaster family pics thread with pics of my twin sisters.
