  1. My friend has a couple of DVD's that he would like me to edit. What exatly is the best way to do this? I want to be able to crop out small sections of video in each. I think I have heard of some programs that allow you to edit and then save MPEG-2 streams without having to reencode. Any suggestions?

    Hi Darth Paris,

DVDShrink will do it for you. If it has trouble accessing / riping the disk, rip with DVDDecrypter or Smart Ripper first.

  4. I believe MPEG Video Wizard from Womble, allows you to edit non encrypted DVD’s and MPEG2 without re-encoding most of the video, just the parts where you add transitions or other effects to them. I used once to make a new DVD out of several music DVD’s and I could not detect any degradation of image quality (although it reencodes the audio to MPEG1 layer II)

Yes, unless I'm mistaken I'm sure you can select the scene(s) you want and crop those out, as you want to do. There's most likely something in the guides...

TMPGEnc will accept DVD as an input type (Add DVD video) and can do simple cutting if that's all you require.
