I get to encoding a dvd and when I get to the end of encoding, This error message keeps showing up.

Failed to read E : / "Data Error - Cyclic Redundancy Check"

What is that about?? I uninstalled, reinstalled the dvd shrink program. It keeps saying the same thing. Help!

sometimes you get that error msg by letting DVD SHRINK rip the files for you. the solution to that is to download the program DVD DECRYPTER and install it. Let DECRYPTER rip the files for you before using DVD SHRINK. use DECRYPTER to rip in FILE MODE to your hard drive. Then open up DVD SHRINK, direct DVD SHRINK to where you saved those files on your hard drive and let DVD SHRINK compress it for you. Here is a guide you can use regarding DVD SHRINK & DECRYPTER.

how to rip with decrypter below:

how to copy dvd-9 using dvd shrink 3.2
    http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/16/59/

Or you can try using a older version of DVD SHRINK like 3.05 beta, here's a guide for it:

    http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/47/59/

    how to burn dvds:

    using NERO BURN: http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/40/59/

using DECRYPTER & IMG TOOL BURN: http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/38/59/

the older version of DVD SHRINK 3.05 b doesn't have the NERO BURN function built into it like the 3.2. anyway some people have problems with burning in the 3.2 so it's wise to just let DVD SHRINK compress for you then open up NERO BURN separately to burn your dvds. Good luck!

CRC errors are normally scratches/fingerprints on the disc.

    Clean the disc.
Try ripping with a different DVD drive if possible (maybe look at purchasing a DVD-ROM).
Try DVDDecrypter or smartripper before laoding into DVDShrink.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. Every disc I have had that has come up with a cyclic redundancy error has been because of a dirty or scratched disc.

When I have either cleaned the disc or sourced another disc the same it has started form where the error finished and progressed through to 100%.

  5. The error message appears during the last few seconds of decoding. Seems strange. 99% of the dvd gets processed without a problem.

  6. I agree with narmar, each and every time I have encountered that error, its been because of dust or scratches.

Lil clean up job and DVD Shrink does the job no problem!

Personally I use the guide on my site I wrote that uses DVD Decrypter to rip, and DVD Shrink to transcode and burn

Plus they are both totally freeware, with no limits, and I avoid using DVD Shrink to rip for the very reason that others on here have suggested ..... that is has problems ripping some DVD's

DVD Decrypter has been designed to do just that rip and burn, DVD Shrink is mainly designed to transcode

You could also try DVD Region-CSS for the more awkward later protections on DVD's that even DVD Decrypter struggles with, as this seems to be the only ripper than can deal with the later Sony DVD protections of false delibrate error tracks in the VOB's to confuse teh rippers

That link to my site is here, plenty of other useful guides as well

I'd be 99% sure that there is a slight smudge or fingerprint on the very outer edge of the disc. It is pretty common
    If in doubt, Google it.

I get a lot of DVDr discs from people that use PRINCOs and those discs get CRC errors all the time. Crappy dyes in those things.
