My last order of Ritek G04 4x printable surface DVDs would only burn at 2X speed on my Pioneer A06. I didn't realize until 3/4 thru the stack. Is this a quality-control, fake re-packaged disks or a bad vendor.

    Anybody else experience this?

Who did you buy them from? Recently there have been fake Riteks being sold at various online stores and from Ebay.

An online store recommended here. It has happened a time or two. I'm switching vendors and trying another one recommended here.

The vendor is SupermediaStore. I don't think this is a vendor issue as much as a product/brand issue.

I ordered some Prodisc 4X from them today since I have 2 Pioneer burners and Prodisc is Pioneer certified. Price was excellent.

The 50 Ritek GO4 4X I paid $26 are going to cost me at least $6 or $7 shipping to return. Since they have free shipping to me, I'm just going to keep these to use on a slow day. I've been a Ritek user for several hundred disks so I hate to see this issue with quality/bootleg or whatever.

When trying to do a bulk burn of 25 or 50 disks, the difference between 15 min at 4X and 30 min at 2X is significant. Thankfully this board keeps us informed!!

  5. Prodiscs have been very good to me, almost 1000 of them I might have had 1 bad one. I think it was probably the recorder, but it might have been the disc.

  6. Check the small print on the spindles and a lot of time they will say "up to 4x." My boy bought a spindle of Sonys and they all burned at 2x or 2.4x I forget which. But none burned at the 4x large print.

If the vendor advertises them for sale as 4X or 8X disks, they better burn at that speed or I'm switching brands.

    That's why I'm dumping Ritek.
