Hi, sometimes when I "Get Profile From Selection" and apply it to the whole wav (eg entire movie audio track) it just doesn't want to work!? It previews OK, but when I click "OK" it just...does nothing! It just seems to happen with TV captures. VHS captures work splendidly!!! I usually resort to using Audacity's NR feature, which is also quite admirable I must say...

Does any of you audio experts have any clue why this is happening? I haven't gone to any CEP forums yet...

    Thanks!

It always works fine for me.

You do know that you're supposed to select the noise that you want to remove > Then click Get Noise From Sample > close it out, then select the entire wave and apply the noise filter.

I've never had a problem. I don't do TV caps, but I'm sure if it's a compliant wave, it should work just fine.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........

Thanks. Yes I know all that. I was wondering, maybe with TV caps there is not much "silence" (ie tape hiss) to select, y'know? So a second or 2 isn't enough. But I tried copying & pasting my selection, to make it 10 seconds or so, and STILL the noise reduction doesn't work!!?? Like I said, it previews FINE! Sounds GREAT! It just doesn't wanna "OK" it (apply it) to the waveform.

    So who knows...

Audacity seemed to do the trick yesterday, tho'. Just 3 clicks from the left, sounded GOOD. Load it into CEP, apply a "premaster EQ", then an 80% normalize, and Bob's yer uncle!

The noise reduction filter doesn't seem to work with large audio files. I cannot give you an exact figure, but 45min episodes work fine, 90 min movies don't.

What I do to go round this is select the first half the audio file, apply the filter, then mark the end point of the first selection, extend it to the end, re-apply the filter and it works again.

I would guess the max length could be in the range of slightly above 1Gb of WAV data, but cannot be sure.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  5. Would you run nosie reduction BEFORE or AFTER another filter such as the parametric EQ?
No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space.

Another problem that may be occuring is that TV engineers use auto gain on the audio before they send it to you. This is more or less the same as an automatic gain control on a cheap tape recorder. Noise is not prevelant as a fixed signal. Try selecting it at a fade to black part of the program and applying it. During the black screens gain usually turns up and brings on quite a bit of noise, due to lack of an audio signal to attenuate.

OK, I can live with that. Yes it must be the length of the wav causing my problems (over 90mins or so), not the fact that it is TV caps. Oops!

Applying NR to the first half, then the 2nd half, works fine. Thanks!

BABYBOO, usually NR is the first thing I do to the wav file. Usually I don't bother with eq. What sort of eq do you apply? The "premaster eq" preset is quite nice.

    Cheers.

I think it is a free "upgrade" to Adobe Audition 1.0 from CEP 2.0...

Occasionally, depending on the source, I will run the loudness filter or fiddle with a couple of others. I will have to try that prmaster EQ preset that you mention...Thanks
