  2. I've always seen it referred to as "speehacking," and it is quite possible. I do it all the time, with consistently successful results. Using Omnipatcher with my LITEON 832s, I've burned RICOHJPNR01, RITEKR02, CMCMAGF01, & MCC01RG20 @ 8x. That's three DVD+R & one DVD-R (all rated 4x) that I've had success with. There are several makes of burners that will do this.

It generally involves a firmware upgrade to your burner, and not all burners can do it. I've burnt Ritek G04s and Princo 4Xs @ 8X with good results on the Riteks but ordinary results on the princos.

    YMMV
    If in doubt, Google it.

I don't recommend it. You can do it, many people have, and some will tell you it's just fine. But you know what I like? I like putting a disc in, hitting "burn", and not having to check it afterwards. Y'know, the way CD's work.

So I buy nice media (Fuji 8x Taiyo Yuden), burn it at 4x or 6x, and every single one works, without exception. No verify, no checking. The extra 5 minutes for each burn is more than worth it to not have to check the disc afterwards.

  6. Some 4x media could do it at 8x, that was before 8x writers were out. Just a quirk.
